ABOUT ME

Stephen Gawking is more than just an artist; he is a warrior, a storyteller, and a creator who turns life’s trials into music that inspires.

Stephen Gawking is the brainchild of Ijay Swanepoel (pictured). He discovered not only a passion for wordplay and lyricism, but also a dormant talent as a lyricist. Challenged by Spinal Muscular Atrophy (see definition), Ijay added his own personal spin to the project. These attributes would eventually become the building blocks for Stephen Gawking – The Nuclear Lyricist.

Born Ijay Swanepoel, Stephen has faced challenges that would silence most. Living with a disability, he has learned to rely not on physical strength but on faith, creativity, and resilience. His journey has been one of battles and breakthroughs, of valleys and mountaintops, with music as the constant force carrying him forward.

The name Stephen Gawking is a symbol: bold, unafraid, and unforgettable. It represents the determination to defy limitations, to create against the odds, and to speak to those who feel unseen or unheard. Through every note and lyric, Stephen embodies the truth that art has the power to unite, to heal, and to point to hope when hope feels out of reach.

His music is rooted in storytelling with songs that carry messages of faith, struggle, and victory. “Remember the Dream” reminds listeners to hold on to their vision no matter the opposition, while “The Way” is a testimony of surrender, echoing the words of Jesus in John 14:6: “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

Stephen’s mission is simple yet powerful: to create music that transcends boundaries and connects people from all walks of life. His work resonates with anyone who has ever felt different, overlooked, or broken, offering them the reminder that true strength is found in faith, in persistence, and in being unashamedly yourself.

This is not just music. This is a movement of resilience, faith, and creativity.
